Pediatric Palliative Care SIG - NAPNAP

Pediatric Palliative Care SIG

NAPNAP Pediatric Palliative Care SIG

Established in 2012, the purpose of the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners’ (NAPNAP) Pediatric Palliative Care Special Interest Group (PPC SIG) is to focus on educating the NAPNAP membership regarding the definition and scope of pediatric palliative care, including ways in which it can be applied in various types of settings and practices.

Pediatric palliative care is the active total care of the child’s body, mind and spirit. It involves giving support to the family, begins when illness is diagnosed and continues regardless of whether or not a child receives disease directed treatment.

Our PPC SIG can offer support to members working within pediatric palliative care specifically, as well as different disease populations.

  • Increase SIG member involvement by participating in the national conference, other NAPNAP events (e.g., Virtual Symposium, Book Club), and partnership/networking with other SIGs.
  • Support palliative care initiatives locally and nationally by partnering with Member-at-Large to identify ways that the SIG can use funds for local and chapter initiatives.
  • Support members interested in palliative care. This can be accomplished either through scholarship for projects (e.g., DNP project focused on palliative care) or through sponsorship of conference fees for 1-3 people (can be virtual conference, national, or other NAPNAP conference).
  • Conversation starter – Having a conversation with your seriously ill child – The Conversation Project and The Institute for Healthcare Improvement
