In the July/August edition of its Journal of Pediatric Health Care, the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners released an updated position statement reaffirming its stance that every infant, child, adolescent and adult should receive all age-appropriate vaccinations on time.
In the decades since their inception, vaccines have prevented more than 150 million deaths from communicable diseases; still more can be prevented each year by expanding worldwide immunization efforts. As an organization dedicated to optimizing the health and well-being of infants, children, adolescents, and young adults, it is inherent to NAPNAP’s mission to promote and encourage immunizations as a necessary and evidence-based component of pediatric health care.
“Pediatric nurse practitioners and their fellow APRNs caring for children play a vital role in protecting children’s short- and long-term heath through timely immunizations,” said NAPNAP President Felesia Bowen, PhD, DNP, PPCNP-BC, FADLN, FAAN. “In light of continuing misinformation and disinformation surrounding vaccines, it is crucial that NAPNAP and the broader health care community continue to share evidence-based information and proactively engage with patient families about vaccines’ safety and efficacy.”
NAPNAP strongly encourages all nurse practitioners to discuss and advocate for immunizations with confidence, while recognizing that not every family will embrace these recommendations. The position statement in full outlines specific actions nurse practitioners can take to promote, educate and advocate for all children to receive age-appropriate vaccinations.
The full position statement was published in the July/August 2025 edition of the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners’ Journal of Pediatric Health Care and can be accessed here.
