A few weeks ago, I shared with you some NAPNAP history. Started in 1973, NAPNAP had an initial 400 members. Currently, we have more than 8500 members. The growth of this organization is attributed to you, NAPNAP’s dedicated pediatric-focused healthcare providers! Once again, I say Thank YOU for all of your participation in NAPNAP activities and for advertising the benefits of membership to your colleagues! I would also like to thank the NAPNAP staff who are always looking for incentives and other opportunities to enhance your membership experience.
NAPNAP offers some great benefits that assist you in paying for your membership, including, first and most important, a very reasonable annual fee, which has not significantly increased over the years. NAPNAP also offers a student membership, about half the regular fee. Students can join any time through their academic program of study and continue this membership for three consecutive years. We recognize that in the past 10 years the economy has been very labile and that many professional benefits through your workplace have been changed or eliminated. It is difficult enough to financially care for your family and save for retirement, without having the additional stress of deciding which organization/s are most important to you and figuring out how you will pay for membership dues out of your own pocket. NAPNAP has two ongoing incentive programs that can offer discounts on your membership fees:
The dual membership program offers discounts to NAPNAP members when joining the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the Association of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition Nurses (APGNN) and the Pediatric Orthopedic Practitioner Society (POPS). Current members of these organizations can join NAPNAP at a discount as well!
The group membership program offers PNPs, FNPs, CNSs and RNs working in the same institution a 20 percent discount on NAPNAP membership when 10 or more members join together. Twenty percent off means paying only $156 annually! Currently, participating hospitals include:
- Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children of The Nemours Foundation
- Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago
- Children's Hospital of Wisconsin
- Children's Mercy Hospital
- Cleveland Clinic Children's
- Seattle Children’s Hospital
- The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia
If you do not see your institution or specialty organization listed here, consider being the ambassador and introducing this program to your nursing or organization leadership. There are children’s hospitals in almost every state; see if you can add yours to save money in the future! For more information on this process, contact NAPNAP’s member services department at 877-662-7627 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Finally, NAPNAP has also annually offered a Connect and Recruit or “member-get-a member” campaign, which is a time-limited opportunity to receive membership discounts by recruiting your friends and colleagues to join NAPNAP. Watch the website and NAPNAP Newsflash for announcements about when this program begins again! If you have questions about membership, do not hesitate to go to the membership page on the NAPNAP website or contact member services. With all of the great benefits, there is no reason not to join or continue your membership!
On June 20, we will officially start my favorite season of the year, summer! When you are traveling, meeting or vacationing with colleagues and friends who are pediatric-focused healthcare providers, make sure to remind them of NAPNAP benefits and encourage them to join YOUR organization!
