Pediatric nurse practitioners (PNPs) and their fellow pediatric-focused advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) are at the forefront of educating patients and families about health promotion and disease prevention, including cancer prevention. You requested materials to help you talk to parents about cancer prevention and the important of pediatric vaccines. Please find some helpful educational resources from NAPNAP, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the American Cancer Society below.
NEW! CDC now recommends 11 to 12 year olds get two doses of HPV vaccine—rather than the previously recommended three doses—to protect against cancers caused by HPV. The second dose should be given 6-12 months after the first dose. For more information on the updated recommendations, go to: https://www.cdc.gov/hpv/hcp/index.html
Be sure to share the patient information with your families.
