NAPNAP announces recipients of 2010 awards at national conference in Chicago.

CHERRY HILL, NJ – The extraordinary contributions of pediatric nurse practitioners (PNPs) took center stage at the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (NAPNAP; www.napnap.org)  31st Annual Conference, April 15-18, 2010, in Chicago, IL. As in previous years, the organization honored nurses from the grassroots to the national level with scholarships, grants, and awards.

Over 1,500 pediatric nurses and other health care providers attended the NAPNAP conference, which was held at the Hyatt Regency Chicago, the highest attended conference in the association’s history. The awards ceremony was held on Friday, April 16, 2010.

NAPNAP’s most prestigious honor, the Loretta C. Ford Distinguished Fellow Award, was presented to Sally Walsh, MSN, CPNP, of Lexington, MA. The award, named after Ford as the co-founder of the nurse practitioner role, recognizes the NAPNAP member who has made a significant contribution to advancing the pediatric nurse practitioner (PNP) role or who has had a positive impact on children’s health at the local level. Candidates are nominated by peers and selected by a vote of NAPNAP’s Executive Board.

The 2010 President’s Award, was given to Karen Farnum, MS, RN, CPNP, of Tewksbury, MA, for outstanding service in recognition of her loyalty, support and dedication to NAPNAP for many years.

At the breakfast, the association’s leaders cited pediatric nurses and NAPNAP-affiliated groups for their exemplary service and practice innovations last year.
