CHERRY HILL, NJ - Many nurses and health care providers are reeling with the news of health care reform. To help these professionals understand how the shifting sands will affect the care of America's children, the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (NAPNAP) has enlisted Susan Dentzer, Health Affairs editor-in-chief and television analyst, to present a groundbreaking session at its upcoming April conference.
Dentzer, who works as an on-air analyst on health issues with The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer, will explore "The Future of Health Care in America: What About the Children?" on Friday, April 16, during NAPNAP's 31st Annual Conference on Pediatric Health Care, April 15-18, 2010, in Chicago, IL. In her presentation, she will describe how current health care legislation will impact child health care. Dentzer will also address the two issues most prevalent in child health today: mental health illness and obesity.
"Health Affairs is an extremely influential health policy journal, and Ms. Dentzer is an ideal person to help our attendees understand the implications of reform on their practice," said NAPNAP President Michelle A. Beauchesne, DNSc, RN, CPNP, FNAP, FAANP.
All sessions at the conference will be presented by leading experts; however two topics are particularly timely: quality care and immunizations.
Carolyn M. Clancy, MD, Director of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) will speak on Saturday, April 17, on "Overcoming the Quality Chasm in Pediatric Health Care." Clancy, an esteemed researcher and general internist who was chosen as the most powerful physician-executive by the readers of Modern Healthcare and Modern Physician magazines, will explore how pediatric nurse practitioners (PNPs) and other providers can ensure quality care in their practice settings.
Also on Friday, William Atkinson, MD, MPH, Medical Epidemiologist at the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Disease at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will present a session on "What's New in Childhood and Adolescent Immunization." Atkinson is known worldwide for his expertise on disease outbreaks, public health and vaccine-preventable diseases. He will advise practitioners at the conference about the most urgent issues in pediatric and adolescent immunizations as well as explore current controversies and answer questions.
