Childhood Obesity The Childhood Obesity Prevention SIG was established for nurse practitioners to gain knowledge regarding childhood obesity prevention and for sharing ideas among nurse practitioners. COP SIG members can make a difference about childhood obesity by networking and sharing information with other nurse practitioners from a variety of specialties and settings to provide improved care of patients with Nutrition (Obesity) and or Physical Fitness issues. Increased amounts of information have been produced to positively impact the rate of obesity in our children. However, this information is not always easily accessible which can lead to replication of work or underuse of quality information or tools. To assist with this concern, the NAPNAP's CO SIG is recognizing excellent programs and resources and featuring them for PNPs and pediatric health care providers. The Special Interest Group (SIG) Best Practice Recognition Project was created by the Childhood Obesity SIG in an effort to centralize and highlight the best of the variety of evidence based resources that are available to providers. To be recognized as a Best Practice in Child Obesity Prevention, a CO SIG member may nominate a resource, which is then reviewed based on a set of ten criteria ranging from evidence based information to efficiency of use. Childhood Obesity Best Practice Recognition Recipients* Let's Move! Initiative Our first nomination and Best Practice Recognition recipient is Michelle Obama's Let's Move! Initiative. *Although the CO SIG recognized best practices in childhood obesity prevention, each individual NAPNAP member must decide whether a recognized resource is appropriate for use in their respective setting or environment. The best practices recognition does not constitute nor imply an endorsement by NAPNAP or the NAPNAP CO SIG.
