AMA Resolutions Our thanks to NAPNAP's Program Manager, Heather Keesing, MSN, APRN, for providing the answer to this question. (Updated 7/25/08) Question: I have heard something about the American Medical Association's (AMA) Scope of Practice initiative that is designed to limit patients' choice of health practitioners. Is NAPNAP actively doing anything to address this initiative? Answer: NAPNAP is one of 35 organizations who have joined the Coalition of Patients' Rights (CPR). This coalition consists of a variety of "non-physician" licensed health care professionals who provide a diverse array of safe, effective, and affordable health care services to millions of patients each year and are looking to counter efforts by the AMA Scope of Practice initiative. The CPR was formed for the sake of patients - to ensure that the growing needs of the American health system can be met and that patients everywhere have access to quality health care providers of their choice.
